I grew up in San Jose California and developed a fascination with physiology while working at a veterinary hospital in Los Gatos. I graduated from West Valley Community College in 1991 from the departments of math and physics. I went to UC Irvine in 1991 and studied physics and biology then started medical school in 1994. My residency was in Internal Medicine in Fresno, California from 1998 to 2001. My fellowship was in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Kansas University in Kansas City from 2001 to 2004. After that, I started working in San Luis Obispo with Central Coast Gastroenterology. I had a lot of help along the way. I have been married to a fantastic lady since 1993 and we have three amazing children. Our oldest daughter was born in southern California while I was a senior in medical school. Our son was born in Clovis while I was a resident. Our youngest daughter was born while I was a fellow at Kansas University.
